TEK Tuesdays: Spoon Racer Leave a Comment / Uncategorized / By firstname.lastname@example.org How to build a Spoon Racer that slides and sways! Parts you’ll need: • 1 Motor (available at The TEK Center) • 1 Double AAA Battery Pack (available at The TEK Center) • 2 AAA Batteries• 3 Corks • 1 Disposable Spoon • Hot glue gun & glue • Wire Strippers • Scissors • Screw Driver STEP 1: Cut off the tips of the battery pack wires using scissors or wire cutters. STEP 2: Strip the plastic casing off the ends of both wires to 15mm. STEP 3: Twist the exposed wires to create solid ends. (Do not twist red & black wires together.) STEP 4: Insert the exposed wire end through the motor pin and fold toward the encased wire. STEP 5: Twist the motor 2-3 times until the wire is secured onto the pin. (Then repeat the process for the other wire.) STEP 6: Insert batteries. STEP 7: Test to see if the motor works. STEP 8: Cut the cork exactly in half. (Be careful to keep your hands and fingers clear from the blades, the scissors can easily slip!) STEP 9: Now cut the same cork into quarters. STEP 10: Hot glue the quarter pieces onto the 2 remaining corks as shown below. (Allow to dry and then add a little more for stability.) STEP 11: Using a screw driver, puncture a hole into both “cork wheels” off-centered and only half way through the cork. (Twist the screw driver a few times to widen the hole.) STEP 12: Hot glue the spoon onto the top of the motor. (Make sure the spoon faces the correct direction.) STEP 13: Place the “cork wheels” onto the motor axle with the off-centered holes facing opposite directions. (This creates a cool “sway” effect.) STEP 14: Hot Glue the battery pack lid onto the spoon handle. (Make sure to leave enough room for the wheels to spin freely.) STEP 15: Allow the glue to dry and then test out your awesome Spoon Racer!
